What gives?

It is more likely to have both, you have dry skin and another type of skin. This combination of types of skin means having a specific type of skin. Combination skin. Difficult, because not only has to find the best way to treat your skin dry, but you must also adjust your system for normal skin or oily skin.
Frustrating yes, but before you start stressing (such as stress has never done anything good for anyone, especially the skin), take a deep breath and remember that not having the oily skin may mean less acne outbreaks for you, and not having Dry skin can mean less work to try to get it soft and hydrated again.
The most common format for combination skin is to have an oily T zone, or areas of your forehead, nose and Regulation, and to give them a dry cheek and eye areas. Take comfort in knowing at least your face is not a battlefield to confuse patchy skin types and are localized areas, making them much easier to treat. It can also be comforting to know that your T zone is probably not as oily as a person with oily skin overall, and that your dry skin is not as bad as some people with general dry skin.
What you can do with this combination of dry and oily skin types? It is simply to adjust your skin care routine to accommodate both dry skin and oily skin. There are many products out there tailored for each skin type, or you might also be interested to look into products that are made specifically for combination skin.
As with any skin type, there are some things you want to run if you have dry or oily skin, so finding the right product for each treatment and begin your skin.
Cleanser. No matter if you have oily skin or dry skin, you still want to clean. Make sure that the cleanser does not remove all the moisture from your face, because then your dry areas will be worse and your oily areas only produce more oil in order to counter all that you have just tried to do for your skin .
Exfoliation. Means dry skin flakes of dead skin cells that may get caught in your pores. Oily skin half dead skin cells have a better chance to get caught in your pores. A good exfoliate help to clean the pores and keep skin free of dead skin cells.
Moisturize. This is particularly true for your skin dry, as will more than likely need the moisture. You can leave your oily areas outside of the circuit moisturizing, as it does not need them. Remember to give all dry skin needs moisturizing, and use more if necessary.
Sunscreen. If you have dry skin or greasy skin, the sun will do damage to your skin without a sun to protect it. Finding a good sunscreen that both types of skin will be able to manage and be sure to put on at least 20 minutes before taking the sun in order to give time to absorb into your skin.
Creams anti Pimpla. Both dry skin and oily skin may be prone to the occasional Pimpla or two in order to have a cream or other anti-Pimpla product on hand to help zap defects before exiting control.
